A three part'Old Sheffield Plate' tea set comprising a matching large sugar basin, pretty shaped creamer and a rotund tea pot. The applied borders are in relief and curve over the rims as shown in the relevant image. Crowning the hinged lid is a round ornate knop.
The pot sports an ebonised handle and the ornate spout is embraced by a foliate decoration. Each piece is raised on four orbical feet.
The sugar and creamer have retained a good gold wash with just slight wear to same to the lip of the latter but still rich. PLEASE NOTE THAT ONE WALL TO THE ROOM IS TERRACOTTA IN COLOUR, THIS CAN BE DISCERNED BY ITS SHAPE IN THE REFLECTIONS IN THE SET. It is in good structural condition apart from a little dimpling to the side of the creamer and a push to the sugar, the handle has usurped its position and given a round push noticeable to the inner but nothing excessive. The silver cover, as is the norm with OSP has a deep shine but there are bleeds mainly to the tea pot where the copper shows through and finer traces where the silver is thinner after a couple of centuries of polishing. It looks as if an armourial may have been removed as there is a small circular area which shows on close inspection to the front of the pieces, this is hard to discern apart from searching for it.
We have left the rich patina to the relief parts of the decoration in place and have merely given it a cursory polish to the rest. It gleamed up beautifully with just that, again typical of the genre. The inner of the teapot shows wear but is without build-up of tannin.
