C1873 Reed & Barton Victorian Silver Plate Aesthetic Egytpian Revival Tea Set

This listing is for a tea set "in one of the "Mask Patterns which was manufactured by the Reed and Barton Silver Company in the 1870's. The book American Silver Plate features the pattern on page 109 and gives credit for the patent to George Gill and lists Reed & Barton as the first manufacture of the patent. Teapots and set with high flaring collars first appeared on the market in the 1860's but by the early 1880's they disappeared from the market. The sphinx design was one of the most coveted of the "Mask Patterns" and continues to be collectable today.

The handles display simulated Egyptian scrip. The silver plate is lovely as shown in the pictures with patina to accentuate the design. There are no monograms or dents, and the inside of each piece is clean and usable. The set consists of a coffee or teapot standing 10.5 inches tall by 9 inches wide at the widest point, the monumental covered sugar stands 8.5 inches tall by 8 inches wide, the creamer stands 6 7/8 inches tall and 5.5 inches wide and the spoon holder or waste pot standing 6.75 inches tall by 7 inches wide.
