Antique Aesthetic Period Wilcox Quadruple Silver Plate Tea Set

For you to consider is an antique 3 piece quadruple silver plated tea service. Exquisitely crafted during the Aesthetic Movement which flourished during the 1870s, by Wilcox Silver Co.

, this ornately detailed 3 piece set includes a 12.5" coffee or tea urn, an 11" covered sugar bowl, and a 5.75 cream pitcher. Perched on delicate scrolled and hoofed feet, these substantial pieces are enhanced by sharp angular foliate handles and embellished with an elegant filigreed band depicting perched birds in a garden. Both the coffee urn and sugar bowl are crested with a large gothic finial on their covers. In remarkable condition for it's age, the silver remains largely intact and polishes to a clear and brilliant luster. Occasional minor flecks of plate loss can be found on a few of the raised peaks of the decorative details, most notably to the filigreed banding, but there is nothing immediately noticeable or distracting unless intentionally seeking out flaws.

A couple of minor dings are also found, most noted to the edge of the sugar bowl lid and a slight crease below the decorative band on one side, but again nothing glaringly obvious. The Wilcox hallmark is engraved to the bottom of each piece. This set was well made and has stood the test of time across 150+ years. Wear is appropriate for age and a history of gentle well cared for use, so please review the photos as they are a descriptive part of the listing. A rare opportunity to own an important piece of American metalsmithing when it was a burgeoning art form in its finest hour.
